The Xiaomi Redmi 8A smartphone was unveiled in India at the end of last month, and alongside it, the brand’s Indian chief Manu Kumar Jain teased Redmi 8 could be the next phone launched in the country. Now, it looks like Redmi is working on releasing the phone to its home soil, China, as it is also listed on the China. Telecommunications website with model number M1908C3IC. The listing suggests the Redmi 8 would sport a 6.21-inch HD + display with a teardrop-shaped notch to accommodate the selfie snapper and is likely to retain the polycarbonate construction. Additionally, the Redmi 8 would come with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of on-board storage, but there could also be 2GB and 3GB options. The handset is expected to feature a dual camera setup on the back consisting of ‘a main sensor of 12 MP and another depth unit of 2 MP. For selfies there will be an 8MP shooter. Like the Redmi 8A, the Redmi 8 will contain a 5,000mAh battery, which is an upgrade from the Redmi 7’s 4,000mAh unit. The handset is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 439 SoC, and it there will be a fingerprint sensor on the back for security. It measures 156.33 × 75.40 × 9.40 and weighs 188 grams.
Redmi 8 will be available in red, green and blue color options. China Telecom’s listing also reveals that Redmi 8 would cost RMB 1,599 (around Rs 16,000), but the price could be a placeholder for now, and the actual price should be much cheaper. Since the handset is already listed in China Telecom’s database, the launch may be imminent and more information should be known soon.
